I pulled out an old and tattered Taste of Home magazine and made these delicious bites for a snack. It has been maybe two or three years since we last made our own doughnuts so I thought it was about time to make a batch again.
I made the dough; let it sit for a bit to rise; Catherine and Mom cut out the doughnuts; and I fried them.
Catherine finished them off with icing and/or cinnamon sugar.

Those look delicious! :) Your food photos are so good.
Thank you but really I am struggling to take photos without my old camera!
Yum! I've only made donuts one time, but it was fun. Do you fry them in a regular cast iron skillet? We thought we had to have a deep fryer to make donuts.
Yes, we fry them in a regular cast-iron skillet. We fill it with about three inches or so of oil and set the heat to medium high. They get done really well that way. I fried the whole batch of about 20-24 doughnuts in about 20 minutes or less, it was really quick.
The heat has to be high enough so they don't get oily and low enough so that they get done all the way through. With our stove top that is usually a challenge but somehow we managed this time!:)
